Handsome Jack
"Buffalo, New York's Handsome Jack are an intriguing prospect: a group combining garage rock with 'boogie soul', a mixture of Delta blues and Stax-style influences. On paper, that might seem a familiar formula, one that puts you in mind of the White Stripes and Black Keys, but in practice there's enough originality here to warant your attention.

Album opener 'Echoes' is not so much a song as a groove- but what a groove, creeping menacingly out of the Delta with a backbeat that teases forever before at last snapping into place. 'Between The Lines' is the most obvious example of the Stax infulence: its major key guitar and bass groove is straight out of memphis. But it's 'You And Me's three-note guitar solo that best captures the band's ethos: keep is simple, keep it raw, make it groove."- Stephen Lawson / BLUES MAGAZINE UK

"Much like the LPs Albert King made for Stax Records, the music here is laid-back, groove-laden and soulful. The band's roots in garage rock are betrayed by the record's bourbon-soaked rawness, but it's a blues record at heart, albeit one that owes as much to '70s funk and late '60s blues rockers Canned Heat as it does to the electrified Chicago blues of John Lee, Muddy and Wolf." – HARMONIC DISTORTION
